Dr. Jessica Meendering and I have known each other since I had my interview to be accepted into the South Dakota State University Exercise Science program back in 2012. She was a professor of mine for two classes, Exercise Physiology and Field Experience, as well as my advisor for the Exercise Science Club while I held my term as President for the student organization. Dr. Meendering has been a big influence for me both as a student as well as a professional. As a student, she pushed me to excel in my academic work and to exceed my own expectations. She demanded a high level of professionalism as well as academic rigor. She has molded me into the professional that I am and strive to continue to be. She expected each of her students to be well rounded and not only excel as a student in his or her academic program but as a professional in his or her field, student organizations, and as a volunteer. She has been a great influence in my life and continues to be a great colleague and friend.

I met Christie back in August of 2011 when I first started to accumulate job shadowing hours for applying to Physical Therapy school. At that time, I had only shadowed 7 other therapists and only accumulated around 50 hours. At the time that I started to apply to schools and my job shadowing hours were over, I had shadowed 15 different therapists for a total of 146 hours. Of those total hours, 48 were spent with Christie in an outpatient rehabilitation setting. I learned more about the physical therapy profession, skills, and techniques used as a physical therapist more with her than any other therapist that I shadowed with. She made it her job to not only provide excellent primary care to her patients but to explain and teach me everything that she was doing for each patient. Afterwards, she would always ask me if I had questions or if I wanted something more explained. She, also, went out of her way to help me with my application process for school when she was busy with her own practice and while preparing for a symposium presentation that she was scheduled to present. She was an excellent teacher and I cannot thank her enough for all of the help and wisdom she provided me over the few years I spent shadowing her.
